It's the weirdest thing. I'm so ready for this and half the time when I tell people and they say, "Oh, I'm sorry," I'll be cheeky and say, "I'm not!" But friends and family who didn't know the level of our dysfunction get upset because they liked us together. Not upset at me, just sad for us, sad to see us split. My dad told me his friend started crying when he told her about it. And then I feel like I need to comfort them, tell them not to be sad, it's a good thing, etc. And then I kind of want to cry too.
It's empathy to a fault, I think. A big part of why our relationship died is because I prioritized his needs and wants way, way over mine. I'm still doing it with others, I guess.
