BeitragVerfasst am: 05.02.2018, 08:27    Titel: Kareem Hunt was 'in shock' from Alex Smith trade

Hunt, was at dinner when he heard the news of Smith being traded from the Chiefs to the Redskins in exchange for a third-round pick and cornerback Kendall Fuller. He told the NFL Network Wednesday the news caught him off-guard and that it will be difficult to say goodbye to Smith after such a successful season., who is in Minneapolis this week taking part in Super Bowl week events

"I was just in shock, so it's (hard) to see a guy like that go. The Redskins got a good one, you know," Hunt said. "Honestly, definitely. He's a great leader, Alex had his best season, great person. I know he's a competitor and he loves to win."

Still, if there was any surprise to the Smith trade, and even Hunt admitted he knew it was coming eventually., it was mostly over the timing and the destination and not the fact that it happened. Smith has long been thought to be heading out the door in Kansas City following the 2017 season

For Hunt, but he admitted to the NFL Network that such major changes can be a lot for a rookie to take in., the Smith trade as well as the departure of offensive coordinator Matt Nagy to become the head coach of the Chicago Bears is a dose of reality when it comes to the business side of the NFL. Hunt is coming off an extremely successful rookie season but now heads into 2018 with a new offensive coordinator in former running backs coach Eric Bieniemy and a new quarterback in Patrick Mahomes. Hunt has plenty of familiarity with both Bieniemy and Mahomes

"It is, and the guy has a crazy arm. I don't know if there's a ball he can miss on the field."," Hunt said. "All I can do is go out there and control what I can control and go out there and play ball. I'm going to do that. I'm excited to see what Pat brings to the table. I know he's going to be great because he's a competitor

In short, what is known today as the Alex Smith trade may eventually be known as the Kendall Fuller trade. If people soon are thinking up catchy, Marcus Peters and Eric Berry, Legion of Boom-type nicknames for Fuller, don’t be surprised. And don’t be surprised if Smith’s legacy with the Chiefs comes less from his career there than in what he brought back.

Understand that the Chiefs flipped a veteran quarterback they had plans for a year to replace — a valuable one, but one that was telegraphed to be unloaded one way or another before the start of the 2018 season, when the world knew they were ready to anoint Patrick Mahomes. And the market seemed to have been set by NFL precedent., for more than a draft pick or a package of them. That was the belief at the end of the Chiefs’ season

Jimmy Garoppolo brought the Patriots a second-round pick this past season. Sam Bradford brought a first- and fourth-rounder. Carson Palmer was worth a first- and third-round pick. Matt Cassel was worth a second-round pick the year he filled in for Tom Brady with the Patriots. Donovan McNabb was sent away from the Eagles for second- and fourth-round picks.

The notion that promising, 22-year-old,Authentic Jarran Reed Jersey, already-productive players at a premiere, third-year, hard-to-fill position are easy to replace and get tossed around with impunity is usually viewed as blasphemy.

a second team is crazy not to grab him before the other team changes its mind.,When a team offers one up

Yes,Authentic C.J. Prosise Jersey, it may be premature to gush over Fuller like this. But Washington thought enough of him to take him in the third round in 2016, and then work him into the secondary rotation last year., to ride out major knee surgery in his final college season and his rookie NFL season

He rewarded them for that patience; various evaluations rated him the best slot corner in the league last season. Pretending that those are growing on trees is foolish. Washington’s best corner,Authentic Nick Vannett Jersey, came with a $50 million price tag. One of the reasons Bashaud Breeland was expected to be a free-agent casualty was Fuller’s presence., Josh Norman

he’s a smaller one than a future draft pick would be. That’s the going rate in the veteran 30-something quarterback trade market.,If Fuller is a question mark

Why did the Redskins include Kendall Fuller in the trade? Because it was the only way the deal was going to get done. It's not like the Redskins said, hey,Womens Rees Odhiambo Jersey, the Redskins wanted Smith and that was the deal to which the parties agreed. It's that simple., how about we throw in Fuller? The Chiefs wanted him

-Some have wondered why a deal had to be made at all. With Patrick Mahomes waiting in the wings to take the starting quarterback job, Smith was a luxury the Chiefs could not afford. Before the trade, there was no guarantee that they could have signed him if he had been cut.,Authentic Lavonte David Jersey, the Chiefs were about $9 million over the cap. Smith had to go and perhaps if the Redskins had waited it out they could have signed Smith for no compensation. But they would have remained in limbo at the position and the Chiefs could have dealt him to another team. In addition

below the level of elite and special quarterbacks but they also offer competence and stability that many other signal callers to not. The Redskins did not get a major upgrade to the team in the deal. Sometimes you have to make a trade not to get better but to prevent getting worse. This was one of those deals.,-I don't think that anyone argues that Smith and Cousins are comparable quarterbacks. They are in the "good" category

-The four-year, $94 million contract extension the Redskins will give Smith once the deal is finalized on March 14 also was needed to get the deal done. The Browns reportedly offered one of their second-round picks in exchange for Smith. However, preferring to go somewhere that was committed to him for at least the next three or four years. The Chiefs accommodated him and now he will we wearing burgundy and gold this fall., they did not want to give Smith a contract extension of that length. They viewed Smith as more of a short-term fix to bridge the gap until the quarterback they plan to take in this year's draft is ready. But Smith was not interested in that role

-Another reason why the Redskins had to make this trade was due to their unwillingness to face the strong possibility that Cousins was not going to sign a long-term deal. They should have known this since they put the franchise tag on him prior to the 2016 season. The only backup plan they came up with was 2016 sixth-round pick Nate Sudfeld, you could argue that they should have started to plan for the future in 2014 when the future of Robert Griffin III started to turn cloudy.Womens Nick Vannett Jersey, But they didn't look to draft any insurance and they paid the price for being in a position of desperation., who didn't impress anyone enough to earn a second season. The smart way to handle the situation would have been to spend a mid-round pick on a quarterback to develop. Had they done that they might not have been such a desperate situation with only Colt McCoy under contract. In fact

The Chiefs agreed to trade veteran quarterback Alex Smith to the Washington Redskins late Monday, a deal that will become official with the start of the new league year on March 14. In doing so, a prolific passer during his college days at Texas Tech, the Chiefs made a bold statement that they’re ready for Mahomes, to assume the starting job for the foreseeable future.

Mahomes dazzled coach Andy Reid and his staff during training camp, making the kinds of downfield throws that Smith could never accomplish. And when he made his regular-season debut in Week 17, he not only played well but returned in the fourth quarter to lead the winning drive against the Broncos., when the Chiefs were already assured of the AFC West title and the No. 4 seed in the playoffs

It was the kind of performance – and the kind of moxie – that made Reid draw comparisons to another of his protgs from his days with the Packers: Brett Favre.

so are the ones Smith is leaving behind.,Those are big shoes to fill. Then again

For all the angst he caused fans by going 1-4 in the playoffs, setting a slew of franchise records in the process., Smith succeeded in stabilizing a franchise that had been turning over quarterbacks for years. He went 50-26 as a starter and made a couple of Pro Bowl appearances

“Alex,” Chiefs offensive guard Laurence Duvernay-Tardif said in a statement posted to Twitter., you are the definition of a true leader and your professionalism helped me grow as a player

“Can’t say enough about the type of friend and teammate Alex Smith has been since getting to Kansas City, adding “the Sherman family will miss the Smith family.”,” Chiefs fullback Anthony Sherman said

Yet the Chiefs knew they were going to move on from Smith in part because of the hefty price tag that came with the final year of his contract. And his strong performance last season made Smith a hot commodity with at least five teams along with the Redskins.

That bidding war, drove up the Chiefs’ asking price., even this early in the offseason

They wound up solving more than one problem in the trade with Washington: The Chiefs, drained of draft picks by previous trades, one of the league’s top slot cornerbacks and a potential starter on the outside opposite Marcus Peters; and they freed up nearly $16 million in salary cap space to make additional moves in free agency.,Womens Jarran Reed Jersey, got a third-round choice in April; they acquired Kendall Fuller

Kansas City now has a pick in the second round and two in the third, which could be used to address other pressing issues on defense., along with selections in the later rounds

Fuller certainly addressed one of them. He was a first-round talent who dropped to the third round coming out of Virginia Tech because of injury concerns,Womens C.J. Prosise Jersey, said on Twitter shortly after news of the trade broke: “I would never have traded Kendall. He can play inside and outside,Authentic Rees Odhiambo Jersey, yet has played to a first-round grade – and stayed healthy – during his first two seasons with in the league. Scot McCloughan, he’s high character, the former Redskins general manager who drafted him in 2016,Womens Frank Clark Jersey, young and a football player.”

He’s also a bargain. Fuller will count $647,500 against the salary cap in 2018 and $750, giving the Chiefs a starting-caliber cornerback at a discount rate.,Womens Lavonte David Jersey,000 the next season

The Chiefs are expected to free up additional cap space by restructuring or moving on from some of their veterans, for example – or pursue help for their shortcomings in free agency.,Authentic Frank Clark Jerseyy, such as linebackers Tamba Hali and Derrick Johnson. That in turn gives them some financial flexibility to sign some of their young stars to long-term deals – Peters and wide receiver Tyreek Hill
